Program Information

Your acceptance into the Undergraduate Drama Program is contingent on your acceptance to the University of Toronto, St. George Campus and acceptance into one of our 3 Entry Points for a Major or Specialist.

If you are interested in applying to Drama, you must be either a University of Toronto student (St. George campus) or you should apply to the Humanities (TAH is the code) admission category at St. George Campus University of Toronto. At least six senior high school credits (Grade 12 U or M courses in the Ontario school system) including English 4U are required. Please note that a Personal Interview and Audition is required for DRM200Y. Students outside of Ontario should have the equivalent senior high school credits.

In your first year, you can enroll yourself into DRM100Y: Drama: Form and Style and audition straight our of high school for DRM200Y: Introduction to Performance.

3 ENTRY POINTS

Enrolment in this program is limited and selection is made after a personal interview and audition or portfolio submission.

Students enrolled in any of the 3 entry points are required to take DRM100Y: Form and Style as a pre- or co-requisite. Students are required to submit a Ballot Form for DRM254Y.

Students wanting to audition for Intro to Performance must submit a DRM200Y Application Form for the April Audition by March 1st or by August 1st for a second round DRM200 Audition held on August 27th.

Students interested in Intro to Playwriting must submit a portfolio of writing by May 21st.

Students are required to ballot, submit another portfolio of writing and/or audition EACH YEAR for admittance into the next level of practical classes.

Drama Specialist

Enrolment in the Specialist and Major programs is limited and selection is normally made after a personal interview and audition. Students will be admitted to the Major only after they have been admitted to either DRM200Y1 (with DRM201H1 and DRM211H1), DRM228H1 or DRM254Y1, and to the Specialist only after they have been admitted to an additional course from Group B.

(12 full courses or their equivalent, including at least four 300+ series with at least one 400 level)

1.    DRM100Y1 (to be taken in first year)
2.    DRM230Y1
3.    From Group A: 1 course equivalent
4.    From Group B: 2 full-course equivalents (entry points: DRM200Y1 or DRM254Y1 or DRM228H1)
5.    From Group C: 1.5 full-course equivalents
6.    From Group D: 0.5 full-course equivalents
7.    From Group A, B, C, D or Other: 5 full-course equivalents to make up the total of 12 courses

Note: Students taking DRM200Y1, 300Y1, 400Y1 and 403Y1 must take the appropriate Voice co-requisite (DRM201H1, 301H1 and 401H1), Movement co-requisite (DRM211H1, 311H1 and 411H1) and academic co-requisite (DRM100Y1, DRM230Y1 or a course from Group A).

  • A Drama Specialist Subject POSt is a Type 3 with the code: ASSPE2148
  • Requests should be made between April 1 – May 15 or 2nd round: July 1 and August 28 2013
  • Request for a Type 3 Subject POSt is made on the Faculty Registrar’s web site.
  • Preparation to Graduate: Forms should be submitted/completed with the Undergraduate Coordinator prior to graduation.

Drama Major

4.    From Group B: 2 full-course equivalents (entry points: DRM200Y1 or DRM254Y1 or DRM228H1)

6.    From Group A, B, C, D or Other: 2 full-course equivalents to make up the total of 8 courses

Enrolment in this program requires the completion of 4.0 courses.

Students in the Minor program may only take academic courses.

Note: Students in the Minor program are not eligible for DRM230Y1 and practical courses
